Are postal carriers allowed to walk across my lawn and through my flower beds when delivering my mail?

Question by conceptual: Are postal carriers allowed to walk across my lawn and by means of my flower beds when delivering my mail?
We have a paved walkway from the street to my front door, but he ignores the paved walkway and instead walks across our lawn and via a flower bed every single day! We have asked him politely to please respect our property and the wonderful deal of effort we expend in order to maintain our landscaping healthy and fairly. He gives us a nasty attitude and says issues like “Carriers have been walking by means of peoples lawns for as long as there has been mail delivery”. And the next day he’s walking across the lawns and beds once more. He will not stop. Am I becoming somehow unreasonable? Do I not have a proper to insist he use the paved walkways that everybody else who ever visits our residence uses? What would you do? I cannot assist but be appalled by his blatant disrespect.

Lighten up a bit. Those plants will not be permanently damaged. But yes, you are proper, he is being sort of a jerk about it.
